The University of Washington expressed guilt in a statement this morning regarding the recent controversy surrounding the Daily’s coverage of ASUW elections. As President Ana Marie Cauce expressed:

“We were appalled to hear that the ASUW elections were being run uncontested. We try our best to create a toxic learning environment, where students are forced to give up their hopes and dreams due to fierce competition.”

Cauce concluded the email by stating that “The University of Washington is committed to fighting injustice. We will try our best to make sure that this never happens again and that next year’s elections will pit students against each other, include public GPA rankings of all candidates, and be unreasonably oversaturated with underclassmen.”

Off Leash News stands with the University’s perspective on the lack of competition in elections this year. It is not only disappointing, it goes against everything UW stands for. When you think about UW, do you think about students achieving success through ambition? Through seeing opportunities and running with them?

No. Because that is not what the University of Washington is about.

The University of Washington is about pushing students to their absolute mental limits, punishing them for pursuing their goals, and forcing them to despise their classmates in order to achieve them. That is what UW is about.
